The Power of the Middle Ground

In today's day and age, we've become an all or nothing culture. We’ve seem to have lost the art of finding the middle-ground where one can find balance and compromise.

This is one of the reasons why diets don't work. People are either "on" or "off." They're either on a diet and things are "on track" or they screw up and fall off (and the "screw-it" syndrome begins with a huge trip to binge-city!)

What if the solution was simply found in the grey zone?

Why put pressure on yourself to have all of the answers and have everything figured out now? Sure, the mind wants certainty, and we want to try to choose our actions carefully in the present moment to predict and shape the future. But the reality is that in today's day and age, you can't predict anything. You have to take things one day at a time.

So if we take diet or nutrition for example. Don't diet. Dieting is impossible. It's impossible to stick to a specific list of foods (while omitting a long list of other foods) for a sustained period of time. Just eat food and practice awareness. Get to know yourself. Get to know your body. Get to know your food. Develop awareness. 

Enjoy the middle ground where you don't cut anything specifically, and just embrace being present in a comfortable zone of learning. In this zone, carbs aren't the devil. In this zone, some sugar is okay. In this zone, a little vino rojo ain't going to kill you. All my wine and carb lovers rejoice!

What you'll see is that in the middle-ground, you won't have as much pressure, and you'll learn to cultivate a better relationship with food. 

In my life, I've been quick to at times jump-the-gun so-to-speak. I've learned over the past year to let things marinate. Hang out in the middle zone. See how things are. No rush. Life is long. Time is plenty. Live and learn!
